Marisa Coggin is a partner in the Insurance and Corporate groups in Dentons’ Toronto office. She focuses her practice on corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in insurance regulatory matters. She has extensive experience working with Canadian federal and provincial insurance regulators and representing clients in respect of regulatory approvals, including those involved with large global transactions, supervisory matters and regulatory inquiries and investigations.
Marisa’s practice includes establishing branches for foreign insurance companies, establishment, licensing and ongoing regulatory compliance for insurance brokerages and managing general agents, and setting up captive insurers. She provides strategic guidance on regulatory compliance management, reinsurance, and market conduct matters as well as a wide variety of commercial agreements. Marisa also has particular expertise in the regulation of product and vehicle warranties and assists clients in structuring nationwide B2B and B2C warranty programs, including embedded insurance solutions. In the past, Marisa served as chief compliance officer for a foreign insurance company.
