Due mainly to the proliferation of wrongful convictions related to false confessions, investigative interviewing has been closely scrutinized in recent years.  Significant and unprecedented research has assisted us in determining which interview approaches are most effective in obtaining truthful, voluntary and impactful statements, even from those who may present as confrontational or unwilling to speak to investigators. We will discuss the research and training that has shown that a rapport focused interview approach is far more effective and reliable than traditional methods.
