He joined Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) in 1981 as a cadet in the communications and summons branch. He served in various branches and roles including patrol, criminal investigations, crisis negotiator, communications and career development officer in Human Resources. He went on to obtain a master's degree in leadership from the University of Guelph in 2012. He retired from WRPS in the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2014. He instructed part-time at Conestoga College in the Police Foundations and Community and Justice Services programs from 2014 to 2015. He has been working as an Investigator with Manulife since September 2015 to present in Group Benefits Risk Management Investigations. His hobbies include running, playing cricket and travelling.
