Christy Kasur is a massage therapist and industry leader with a profound commitment to
advancing the massage profession and protecting public safety. Her career spans over two
decades of clinical practice and leadership in various roles, ranging from strategic legislative
advocacy to government relations and policy reform. In June 2020, Christy received the
President's Award for her exceptional leadership, passion, and compassion in advancing the
massage profession in Alberta.
Christy’s work is focused not only on delivering massage therapy care, but also on protecting
the integrity of the massage industry and protecting the public interest through identifying
legislative gaps, enforcement gaps and cross-over harms between the massage industry and sex
industry through collaborative risk mitigation.
Collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Alberta government, municipalities, law
enforcement, and non-profits, has expanded her understanding of the risks to Massage
Therapists and the need to clearly separate the massage industry and sex industry to protect
the vulnerable and reduce above average rates of sexual violence to massage therapists. Christy
brings awareness to illicit massage businesses that are sometimes used as fronts for human
trafficking and organized crime.
Christy’s expertise also extends to working as an expert witness in Alberta Provincial Courts
offering critical testimony on legal matters involving massage therapy.
