Ms. Yaqoob is a seasoned legal professional with international law expertise and a commitment to community service. With over 11 years of legal practice in the UK, she brought her expertise to Canada, where she serves as the Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs (DLRA) and FOIP Coordinator for the AIC. International Engagement During her tenure in the UK, Ms. Yaqoob excelled in diverse legal domains, including governance and council support. Her dedication to community included volunteering for the Afghani community, where she aided in immigration and asylum matters. Her passion for mentorship led her to guide internationally trained lawyers relocating to Alberta. Community Advocacy/Volunteerism In Canada, her commitment to community continues, notably with Calgary Legal Guidance and as a Designated Representative before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. She plays a vital role in supporting applicants under 18 years old or those unable to comprehend legal proceedings. Her contributions included Finance Committee and Board Memberships with Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association. Leadership at AIC Appointed as the DLRA in October 2018, Ms. Yaqoob provides legal guidance to the Industry Councils. She advocates before the Insurance Councils Appeal Board and Alberta Court of King’s Bench, ensuring fair and just outcomes. Her commitment to education is highlighted by her dissemination of knowledge through publications, including Notices to the Profession, and Guideline for Self-Represented Litigants. FOIP Coordinator As the FOIP Coordinator for the AIC, Ms. Yaqoob is dedicated to upholding the principles of Alberta’s FOIP Act, ensuring compliance within the AIC and Industry Councils, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding privacy and maintaining transparency.
