Kandace Hopkins is the Director of Practice and Quality
Assurance at the Insurance Council of British Columbia. The Insurance Council
of British Columbia is an insurance regulatory body appointed by the BC
provincial government to ensure licensed insurance agents, salespersons, and
adjusters act within a professional framework, which promotes ethical conduct,
integrity, and competence. As the Insurance Council of BC regulates the
licensing, education, discipline, and enforcement of over 40,000 general and life
insurance intermediaries across the province and, as the regulator of insurance
intermediaries, is committed to proactive regulatory leadership that ensures
qualified, competent, and ethical insurance professionals meet British
Columbians’ insurance needs.
Building on her finance background, Kandace has led regulatory
operations and oversight within the Financial, Pharmaceutical, and Insurance
sectors. After receiving her business degree (majors in Finance and Human
Resources while minoring in Economics) from Simon Fraser University, Kandace
spent time in a team that navigated both Canadian and US healthcare approval;
then in Corporate Finance with the TSX Venture Exchange, and now leads the
Practice and Quality Assurance team within the Insurance Council of BC.
Since joining the Insurance Council in 2013, Kandace has
overseen work in licensing, complaints and investigations, practice guidance,
compliance audits, and now leads the practice, quality assurance, education and
policy teams, together, the Practice and Quality Assurance Department. In her
current role, she has led the digitization and contemporization of many
practices and processes; introduced numerous practice guidance and created the
first in-house learning curriculums in the 40+ years of Council operations.
