Hartley Lefton is a Partner in the McCarthy Tetrault Financial Services Group, and is Co-Head of the firm’s National Insurance and Reinsurance Group, based in Toronto. He is recognized as a leading transactional, commercial, governance and regulatory/compliance advisor to clients within the insurance industry in Canada, including Insurtech companies. Hartley’s practice focuses on M&A and complex regulatory compliance matters, such as regulatory investigations or regulatory concerns that can affect M&A or new product launches. Hartley has extensive experience leading key transactional and regulatory mandates for clients based in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, China, and the Middle East. In December of 2021, Hartley was appointed to the Technical Advisory Committee for Insurance Prudential Regulation and Supervision of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). Hartley is a frequent speaker at leading insurance regulatory conferences, including speaking a number of times at CLHIA conferences.
