Speaker biography
Dr. Aaron Burry
Chief Executive Officer
Canadian Dental Association
Dr. Aaron Burry joined the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) in 2017 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in June 2022. Prior to joining CDA in 2017, Aaron spent 25 years in the public service at the City of Ottawa. He held several senior executive positions. Never fully leaving his dental roots, he was cross appointed to Ottawa Public Health serving concurrently as the Chief Dental Officer. Despite a demanding schedule, Aaron incorporated the practise dentistry one day per week until 2023. In the latter stages of his career, he focused on providing care to individuals with complex medical and social needs. His passion is developing plans and leading teams through significant periods of change and transformation.
During the past 24 months, the CDA Board of Directors and staff team focused on the opportunity of advancing CDA’s long-standing goal of increasing access to oral health care for all Canadians. Aaron is part of the pan-Canadian response team involving CDA and the Provincial and Territorial Dental Associations. The collective goal is providing the best advice and data to ensure the best opportunity for a successful and sustainable dental care program, now officially called the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), that addresses the needs of all levels of government, patients, and dentists.
Dr. Burry graduated from Dalhousie Dental School in 1986 and maintained a full-time practice until 1993. He holds a master’s in health administration and master’s in business administration and is a certified specialist in Dental Public Health.
