Speaker biography
Carolyn Hackett became a prosecutor with the Ministry of the Attorney General (Ontario) in 2007, after starting her legal career in commercial litigation at a full service law firm in downtown Toronto. Carolyn started prosecuting criminal cases as part of the Crown Attorney’s Office in Peel and worked as a trial Crown for more than ten years. While in Peel, Carolyn appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice, as well as led the Intimate Partner Violence and Major Fraud Teams. In 2018, Carolyn was recognized with an award of excellence for prosecutors in Ontario’s Central West Region and, in 2020, was named the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators’ Prosecutor of the Year for Central Canada. Carolyn was one of the original Crown Counsel at the Prosecution Branch of Ontario’s Serious Fraud Office when it opened in 2018, and has been Chief Counsel of the Serious Fraud Office since January 2025.
