Brian Ernewein serves (under contract) as a Senior Advisor to the KPMG Canada Tax & Legal team.Brian joined KPMG earlier this year after building a successful 35-year career with the Canadian Government, where he held numerous roles in the Tax Policy Branch of the Department of Finance, including as the Branch’s General Director and, most recently, as Assistant Deputy Minister, Tax Legislation. For several years, Brian was Canada’s representative to the OECD’s Committee for Fiscal Affairs. He was elected to the CFA’s Bureau in 2014 and as Vice-Chair of the Bureau in 2016; he was also a member of the Inclusive Framework Steering Group (and Canadian delegate to the Inclusive Framework itself). In these roles, Brian was intensively involved in the development and discussion of the BEPS measures and, more recently, the two “Pillars”. Brian’s engagement at KPMG includes working with the Global Tax Policy team, focusing on the tax policy implications of new initiatives on Canadian multinationals and industry groups. Brian completed his undergraduate work and obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. He is a recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal
